The UAE is setting a groundbreaking precedent by becoming the first country to utilize artificial intelligence to draft its laws. Recently, the nation announced the establishment of the Regulatory Intelligence Office, a key step in automating the process of creating and reviewing federal and local legislation.
This new initiative builds on the UAE’s commitment to integrating AI into governance, following the appointment of the world’s first AI Minister back in 2017. The Regulatory Intelligence Office will be responsible for coordinating and designing the implementation of AI-driven regulatory systems, aimed at streamlining legislative procedures and ensuring the efficient development and amendment of laws, judicial rulings, and public services.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum, the UAE Vice President and Prime Minister, emphasized that this AI-powered system will revolutionize the legislative process, making it not only faster but also more accurate. The country’s ambitious move comes in a time when AI’s market value is projected to reach $15.7 trillion by 2030, with expectations to slash government costs by 50%.
With this move, the UAE is once again positioning itself as a leader in technological innovation and digital transformation.
